New stats from Strategy Analytics show that Samsung shipped 93.5m phones in Q1 compared to Nokia's 82.7m.
Last year, Samsung became the world's leading smartphone maker as its Galaxy range outpunched iPhone and RIM's fading BlackBerry. It also took advantage of the decline in Nokia's Symbian platform and its nascent WinPho range.
The South Korean OEM shipped 44.5 million smartphones in the quarter, giving it about 31 percent of the market.
That's impressive, but the maths shows that it still sells more feature phones. Samsung has been careful to nurture more affordable Android devices and the mid-tier range based on its own bada OS.
