You've already read our review and you're still convinced you need Samsung's latest Galaxy S smartphone as soon as humanly possible, eh? Well if you're on Verizon (or you'd like to be), the Galaxy S 4 goes up for pre-order starting tomorrow according to a tweet from Verizon's Twitter account. Of course, when you'll get it is another question altogether -- last we heard was "sometime in May," so take that as you will. May is pretty soon, right? In any case, you won't immediately be able to purchase the GS 4 anywhere: Sprint is reporting delays until some unknown date, while T-Mo-'s version isn't arriving until April 29. Meanwhile, AT&T is still planning for an April 25th launch for pre-order customers, and in-store on April 27th.
Update: Verizon PR rep Ken Muche has also confirmed on Twitter that the phone will run $199.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate on the usual two-year contract.

Mobile phone usage among teens far higher in UK than US.
The appetite for technology among teenagers across the UK appears to significantly more ferocious than that of its US counterparts, after eMarketer found that 81 per cent of UK teens use smartphones, as opposed to just 50 per cent in the US.
The new report from eMarketer also found that around 93 per cent of UK teens will use mobile phones in 2013.
It is also estimated that the current percentage of UK teens using smartphones could rise to as high as 96 per cent by 2017. Such penetration gains during this period will position teenagers as the age group with the second-highest penetration rate of all smartphone users.
However, while smartphone usage among US teens may be lagging behind that of UK teens, many teenagers from across the pond are in possession of a mobile phone of some sort.
Based on a study carried out during Q3 2012, Pew Research recently reported that 78 per cent of teens in the US own a mobile phone, while 23 per cent are in possession of a tablet.
Mary Madden, senior researcher for the Pew Research Center’s Internet Project and co-author of the report, said: "The nature of teens’ internet use has transformed dramatically — from stationary connections tied to shared desktops in the home to always-on connections that move with them throughout the day.
"In many ways, teens represent the leading edge of mobile connectivity, and the patterns of their technology use often signal future changes in the adult population."

The Japanese smartphone market is set top outstrip the PC market in 2014, according to telecompaper.
Citing data from the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, the Nikkei has reported that PC shipments fell 1.1 per cent year-on-year to 11.15 million units in fiscal 2012.
In spite of the October launch of Microsoft's Windows 8 OS, PC shipments also dropped 8.3 per cent in yen terms to mark a second successive year of contraction.
IDC Japan has estimated that the smartphone market will grow by around nine per cent to JPY 1.53 trillion this year, which is almost on par with the firm’s forecast of JPY 1.58 trillion for the PC market.
Smartphones are expected to grow further to a JPY 1.55 trillion market in 2014.

Sony is quickly developing a reputation as the tinkerer's phone maker of choice: it took on responsibility for maintaining AOSP on the Xperia S even when Google couldn't. Today, it's proving that commitment to open software by releasing an Android 4.2.2-based AOSP build for one of its 2013 flagships, the Xperia Z. The initial public version is rough and has to go without proprietary camera and cellular drivers, although it does support Bluetooth, GPS, SD storage, WiFi and a host of sensors. Developers and other experimenters can grab the necessary code on GitHub; the rest of us can stick to marginally safer CyanogenMod nightlies.

There's already a number of Amiga emulators for Android, but using them has so far required you to provide your own Amiga system files to actually get that emulation started. Cloanto's set out to change that today, though, releasing its Amiga Forever Essentials app for Android that comes complete with officially licensed ROM and OS files for the reasonable cost of one dollar. As the company explains, it worked with the makers of Amiga emulators like UAE4Droid, AnUAE4All, UAE4All2 to ensure thesystem files are auto-detected (you'll still need to use at least one of those other emulators in conjunction with Forever Essentials), and it's thrown in a few bonuses likeWorkbench 1.3 and the First Demos disk images to get you started. It also says that this is just the first of a planned series of "Essentials" packages for other platforms, but it has few specifics to share about those at the moment, saying only that it's hopeful it can "help make retrocomputing more accepted on other app stores."

We've seen a few UK carriers show their cards ahead of the Galaxy S 4 launch this weekend, but MVNO Virgin Media has been slightly coy with details compared to bigger peers like EE and Vodafone. Better late than never, we suppose: the provider has outlined just how much we'll have to spend to get Samsung's flagship. Customers who have Virgin broadband or TV services can pay the same £31 per month as their EE counterparts, getting a lower £99 device cost and insurance in exchange for a more limited service that includes 200 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB of data.

While the iPhone didn't even have a built-in FM radio to replace, Android hardware from all the major players has started to forgo the radio tuner in the last few years. Fortunately, Beeb listeners (at least) can finally access the iPlayer radio app, which has made the leap across from iOS. Not only will you be able to install it on your Android smartphone, but also Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet series. The new app doesn't use Flash, given its absence on most up-to-date versions of Google's mobile OS, instead using HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) to deliver your weekly doses of Doctor Who.
Meanwhile, the radio app's design has been given a rethink for its Android debut, following the design and navigation notions of Google's homemade apps and hopefully making sense to any seasoned Android 4.0 user. The BBC's Executive Producer James Simcock explains exactly what's been done differently at the source, but if you're not a "reading" kind of... reader, there's a trailer after the break.

Pre-orders of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 have already begun at AT&T, but the operator has been oddly silent about the actual date customers can expect to purchase one in stores and online. Now that T-Mobile and Sprint have both announced specific launch dates (April 24th and 27th, respectively), the largest GSM carrier in the country has followed up by declaring its intent to sell the flagship Samsung device on the 27th of this month. This is four days earlier than the anticipated pre-order shipment date, which means the HTC One has merely a full week to bask in the spotlight by itself. What's more, if you simply couldn't wait and jumped on those pre-orders, you'll get yours a full 48 hours early (read: April 25th). As expected, the GS 4 will be offered for $200 (16GB) and $250 (32GB) in both black and white.

Samsung is testing a way to control your mobile device with your brainwaves. If that project succeeds, it would truly be a case of science fiction brought to real life. According to MIT Technology Review, Samsung's Emerging Technology Lab is collaborating with Roozbeh Jafari, assistant professor of electrical engineering at the University of Texas, Dallas, on the early-stage research. That research involves placing a cap 'studded with EEG-monitoring electrodes' atop the head of a convenient subject, who then concentrates on an onscreen icon blinking at a particular rate. Concentrate hard enough, and the subject can launch and interact with applications. However, Samsung also indicated that mind-controlled mobile devices are quite a ways off, if they ever appear in a market-ready form at all. 'Several years ago, a small keypad was the only input modality to control the phone, but nowadays the user can use voice, touch, gesture, and eye movement to control and interact with mobile devices,' Insoo Kim, Samsung's lead researcher, told the Review. 'Adding more input modalities will provide us with more convenient and richer ways of interacting with mobile devices.' In any case, it's a crazy concept, the sort of thing Philip K. Dick might have written up as a short story; but it's one evidently grounded in reality.

Amazon's just updated its Appstore today with a much welcome offering for avid gamers: Xbox SmartGlass. Microsoft's app-based second screen solution has beenavailable on iOS and Android since late last fall, but despite sharing a kernel with Google's OS, hadn't been made dispensable to Kindle Fire / Fire HD owners until now. The app's been configured to scale natively on Amazon's refreshed tablet line, letting users navigate their Xbox 360 remotely, push and pull streaming content, as well as access achievements, messaging and Xbox Music. So if it's the living room of the future you're after, you might want to hit up the source and make that free download your own.

Underwhelming adoption rate could be due to limited launch.
Facebook has around 700 million monthly active mobile users, but the company's new Android-based Facebook Home service has only been downloaded from Google Play 500,000 times in five days, according to TechCrunch
Budding Home users must have the Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps for the feature to work, but theservice is only available for the newly released HTC First, as well as the HTC One X, HTC One X+, Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy Note II, which could be stunting growth.
Meanwhile, Facebook has confirmed it is in talks with Apple and Microsoft to launch Home for iOS and Windows, and recently introduced the interface's Chat Heads messaging feature to devices running the iPhone maker's OS.

Samsung is to showcase its upcoming Galaxy Note 3 device at this year's IFA show in September ahead of its expected Q4 release.
Rumours surrounding the device continue to circulate, particularly regarding the device's near six-inch display and metallic outer body.
SamMobile reports that the device will feature a thinner, lighter display than its predecessor, the Note 2, measuring in at 5.99-inches.
Whilst the resolution of the Note 3's display is yet to be confirmed, SamMobile reports the device will feature an 'unbreakable' plastic display, moving away from the standard glass OLED screens used in Samsung's previous devices.
Combining both a metallic outer frame with an 'unbreakable' display will certainly make for a more durable device, but it remains to be seen if consumers will opt for a smartphone sporting an almost six-inch screen.

Sorry for the lack of updates for the past few weeks, but I have still been working on the Raspberry Pi version of my emulator. I have not done anything else to ax86 besides checking that my changes to rpix86 have not broken anything in ax86 (as they share most of the source code).
I again hope to focus more on ax86 in the future, but as I just released version 0.06 of rpix86, it is possible that I need to continue fixing bugs in it, in case I broke something or the new features do not work as expected. I will try to write short blog posts like this on here as well, though, even if I don't currently work much on ax86.
